- Structural wood protection
Modern wood protection has overcome chemical wood protection to a few exceptions and refers directly to the traditional wood protection. The use of unhealthy Biocides (against parasites) is avoided through constructive solutions. This can be achieved for example through certain connections and arrangements of components. Special ventilation or protection layers like steam brake and under layers. Parasites are not are not exterminated by these means, but rather their necessary habits is not available anymore, namely moisture.
- Block method of building
Flat full wood walls built out of dark, partly hewed stems or in a modern manner machine profiled wood plank, stacked horizontally one above the other and connected together in simple groove-and-feather construction. The vertical load is transferred through the wall elements to the ground. In this construction type the load presses the wood fibers which are starched but still are very resistant to this kind of tension. In block method of building, one must take into consideration the preparation costs and comparatively high production costs.
- Blower door procedure
It is used to test the air tightness of buildings. By ventilation, on overpressure and on under pressure is created between the inside and the outside (50 Pa). A magnitude of n-50 is reached, which shows the resulting volume currents in cracks and ridges. Especially for new constructions, this procedure is recommended since it reveals mistakes in execution. Mistakes can be worked on and damage from dew can be avoided.
